Brescia - You will love visiting Brescia
With a population of approximately 192,000 in 90 square kilometers of Italy, it is the second largest city in the region next to Milan, and enjoyed some importance since before Roman times, mostly because of its size. It is also probably the reason it has been involved in quite a few wars and been tugged back and forth for a while until it was annexed to Italy in 1859. It has even been the site of the anti-fascist Piazza della Loggia bombing in 1974. Trouble never ends.
Myth has it is that Hercules created the city while others attribute the creation to a fugitive from Troy as “the other ileum." You know at once it will have a colorful history. Brescia is an industrial area, the third largest in Italy specializing in automotive, engineering and machine tools with small to medium enterprises run by families. But being industrial doesn't stop Brescia from being a tourist magnet, not with all those ruins lying around such as The Capitoline Temple and a couple of baths left by the Romans as well as an aqueduct.
Nestled against the Alps between Mella and Naviglio and within shouting distance of Lake Garda and Lake Iseo, it seems the ideal tourist spot, notwithstanding the interesting medieval buildings such as the castle-turned-prison in the northeast, the Municipio and the church of S. Maria dei Miracoli. It also has at least 72 public fountains, so quite a lot of wishes were probably made there. Citizens who became famous including but not limited to Pope John Paul the VI, violin maker pioneer Gasparo da Salò and 16th century mathematician Niccolo Fontana Tartaglia. It is well-rounded population apparently.
Among the old and the new are the hotels Brescia can offer the many tourists who come to the city. Alberghi Brescia is a conglomeration of seven hotels in various parts of the city ranging from 4-star rating includes the Park Hotel Desenzano and Rivalago Hotel to 3-star rating including Sulla Strada del Lago and Hotel Alabarda. Alberghi roughly translated means “accommodation" so alberghi Brescia is accommodation Brescia, although Brescia alberghi could also work. Funnily enough, Hotel Brescia is not even in Brescia, but in 16 Rue d Edimbourg, Paris. Another funny thing is there is not one Brescia hotel which has a five-star rating. This is trivial but the place does speak for its beauty irregardless. |
